Why Hire a Professional Carpenter

Girdwood AK carpenter installing cabinets“Carpentry” is a profession and a trade that is regulated and licensed by each State.  It is generally not the type of work that you want to trust to someone who is a general handyman or a “Mister Fixit”.  So when your porch needs mending or your staircase needs replacing, it is very important to enlist the services of a licensed local carpenter in Girdwood AK.  Following are just a few of the advantages of hiring a skilled carpenter in your area instead of an unlicensed handyman.

  • Carpenters can get the job done fast and to your satisfaction. When you need a new deck built or a new addition to your home, you want someone who will begin the project promptly and complete the job professionally and on time. You also want someone who will guarantee their work and is licensed and insured for your protection.
  • Carpenters have the experience and skill to handle any job. When it comes to woodworking, a local Girdwood AK carpenter has the ability to tackle any job.  You don’t want a handyman who will be building a garage for the first time on your home, or a layman who doesn’t know the first thing about installing cabinets.  Carpenters work as apprentices until they learn all of the skills required through experience to command the title of a Professional Carpenter.
  • Carpenters keep up to date on the latest trends in their profession. As licensed professionals, carpenters keep abreast of the latest developments in their trade.  They take pride in their work and continually stay current on new tools and equipment as well as advanced techniques in carpentry.  This guarantees that you will receive the most up to date service available when you hire a certified Girdwood AK carpenter.
  • Carpenters develop long term relationships with their customers. It may seem like an intangible benefit, but once you find a professional licensed carpenter that you trust, it only takes one phone call to address all of your carpentry needs.  You will be in the company’s system for contact information as well as any previous services performed, and you will receive priority treatment as a valued customer.  No need to find someone new the next time a stair railing needs replacement or a door needs to be framed and hung.  And since you are in their data base you will receive any special promotions or incentives whenever they are made available to their Girdwood AK customers.

Need a Carpenter in Girdwood Alaska?

If you live in Girdwood AK and are in need of affordable carpentry services, following is some interesting and perhaps useful information about your hometown.

Girdwood, Anchorage

Girdwood is a resort town within the southern extent of the Municipality of Anchorage in the state of Alaska. Located near the end of the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet, Girdwood lies in a valley in the southwestern Chugach Mountains, surrounded by seven glaciers feeding into a number of creeks, which either converge within the valley or empty directly into the arm. Girdwood is typically accessed by the Seward Highway (Milepost 90), with the main line of the Alaska Railroad paralleling the highway. By road distance, most of the community lies within 35 to 40 miles (56 to 64 km) of Downtown Anchorage. According to 2014 estimates, a little under 2,000 people live in the valley.

Founded as a community to supply miners during the Turnagain Arm gold rushes of the 1890s, Girdwood was mostly a small, quiet place until the middle of the 20th century. Two events drastically altered that. The first was the establishment of Alyeska Resort along the slopes of Mount Alyeska, which became an international destination coincidental with Anchorage's civic promotion of itself as "The Air Crossroads of the World". The second was the 1964 earthquake, which devastated the original townsite located directly along the arm. Following the earthquake, most of the town moved further up the valley to a new townsite, though a few homes remained and a strip mall was later constructed along the Seward Highway. Historically dominated in the years since the resort's opening by seasonally-occupied vacation homes and seasonal activity at the resort, the opening of the Alyeska Prince Hotel during the 1990s has shifted the resort, and hence Girdwood as a whole, more towards year-round activity and a year-round economy. This has led to periodic debates about community growth and affordability of housing for resort workers, many of whom over the years have resorted to camping illegally on public lands.

Girdwood still revolves heavily around seasonal activity, with skiing and snowboarding at Alyeska Resort bringing visitors and their money into the community. Summer activities are also popular, which include hiking, fishing and rafting. The Girdwood Forest Fair, held every July, is the community's most significant visitor attraction apart from resort-related activities. Girdwood is located within the northernmost extent of rain forest on Earth, and also serves as the closest point of access to Chugach National Forest from Anchorage proper.
