Select the Right Carpenter

Ketchikan AK carpenter hammering nailCarpenters are highly skilled contractors who work primarily with wood.  These Ketchikan AK tradesmen are usually licensed and offer a wide range of services related to carpentry and woodworking.  Depending on the job, you may need a general carpenter or a finish carpenter.  A general carpenter is a journeyman who is qualified to complete the majority of residential carpentry work.  A finish carpenter however does the more intricate work, which may include cabinet and furniture making, joinery, and other more refined woodworking projects.  So it is important when choosing a professional carpenter that you select someone who is suited to the specific work you need completed and has the skills and experience to perform the carpentry work to your satisfaction.

Why Hire a Professional Carpenter

Ketchikan AK carpenter installing cabinets“Carpentry” is a profession and a trade that is regulated and licensed by each State.  It is generally not the type of work that you want to trust to someone who is a general handyman or a “Mister Fixit”.  So when your porch needs mending or your staircase needs replacing, it is very important to enlist the services of a licensed local carpenter in Ketchikan AK.  Following are just a few of the advantages of hiring a skilled carpenter in your area instead of an unlicensed handyman.

  • Carpenters can get the job done fast and to your satisfaction. When you need a new deck built or a new addition to your home, you want someone who will begin the project promptly and complete the job professionally and on time. You also want someone who will guarantee their work and is licensed and insured for your protection.
  • Carpenters have the experience and skill to handle any job. When it comes to woodworking, a local Ketchikan AK carpenter has the ability to tackle any job.  You don’t want a handyman who will be building a garage for the first time on your home, or a layman who doesn’t know the first thing about installing cabinets.  Carpenters work as apprentices until they learn all of the skills required through experience to command the title of a Professional Carpenter.
  • Carpenters keep up to date on the latest trends in their profession. As licensed professionals, carpenters keep abreast of the latest developments in their trade.  They take pride in their work and continually stay current on new tools and equipment as well as advanced techniques in carpentry.  This guarantees that you will receive the most up to date service available when you hire a certified Ketchikan AK carpenter.
  • Carpenters develop long term relationships with their customers. It may seem like an intangible benefit, but once you find a professional licensed carpenter that you trust, it only takes one phone call to address all of your carpentry needs.  You will be in the company’s system for contact information as well as any previous services performed, and you will receive priority treatment as a valued customer.  No need to find someone new the next time a stair railing needs replacement or a door needs to be framed and hung.  And since you are in their data base you will receive any special promotions or incentives whenever they are made available to their Ketchikan AK customers.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Ketchikan (/ˈkɛtʃɪkæn/ KETCH-ih-kan;[7]Tlingit: Kichx̱áan) is a city in and the borough seat of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough of Alaska.[4][8] It is the state's southeasternmost major settlement. Downtown Ketchikan is a National Historic District. With a population at the 2010 census of 8,050,[4] it is the fifth-most populous city in the state, and tenth-most populous community when census-designated places are included. The surrounding borough, encompassing suburbs both north and south of the city along the Tongass Highway (most of which are commonly regarded as a part of Ketchikan, albeit not a part of the city itself), plus small rural settlements accessible mostly by water, registered a population of 13,477 in that same census.[9] Estimates put the 2017 population at 13,754 people.[10] Incorporated on August 25, 1900, Ketchikan is the earliest extant incorporated city in Alaska, because consolidation or unification elsewhere in Alaska resulted in dissolution of those communities' city governments. Ketchikan is located on Revillagigedo Island, so named in 1793 by Captain George Vancouver.

Ketchikan is named after Ketchikan Creek, which flows through the town, emptying into the Tongass Narrows a short distance southeast of its downtown. "Ketchikan" comes from the Tlingit name for the creek, Kitschk-hin, the meaning of which is unclear. It may mean "the river belonging to Kitschk"; other accounts claim it means "Thundering Wings of an Eagle".[11] In modern Tlingit this name is rendered as Kichx̱áan.[12]

Ketchikan Creek served as a summer fish camp for Tlingit natives for untold years before the town was established by Mike Martin in 1885. He was sent to the area by an Oregon canning company to assess prospects. He established the saltery Clark & Martin and a general store with Nova Scotia native George Clark who had been foreman at a cannery that burned down.[13]
